The text layer of each page is read out in reading order and stitched together, dropping the layout but keeping the words. The result is a markdown. plain text with a light syntax that renders to clean html, produced entirely inside your browser.

What actually happens to my PDF file when I convert it to MD?
The text layer of each page is read out in reading order and stitched together, dropping the layout but keeping the words. So the PDF file is unpacked, the content is laid out, and the result is written out as MD. The text, in the order the page presents it survives unchanged.
Will converting PDF to MD reduce the quality?
Partly. Some formatting is approximated because the two formats describe layout differently. The text itself is never re-typed, so no words are lost.
